One of the most amazing parts of the barracks is down by the lake. It changes character completely between the seasons, but also year to year.
The alders and the aspens and the willows I planted four years ago becoming stronger, and transforming the place from a squidgy swamp growing nothing but horsetail to an abundant wild space of native flowering plants, insects and butterflies. Which are insects. From the way the grass is lying, it looks like a family of deer have been resting here as well.
Because I had to spend more time in the vegetables than I expected, the hedge has suffered a lack of clipping. I made a start today, and it’s looking a bit threadbare.
And nearly 50kg of wheat grains drying.
See you on Monday!
